COVID and the Call of the Wild Feminine

In my work with my clients, we always look for the opportunity beneath the challenge. We approach crisis, big or small, with curiosity and the question: what are you here to show me?

So I’ve been thinking a lot about the invitation of this pandemic we are facing. What is the underlying message being sent to us from our earth, from the cosmos?

Astrologically these are some very interesting times. Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter have all been hanging out together in the sign of Capricorn - an earth sign that speaks to the structures of our world. And with Pluto the MO is always death and rebirth. Destroying what no longer serves in order to provide a clean slate. Meanwhile, the North Node - the soul calling of our times - has been in the sign of Cancer, the divine mother who invites us to value that which we call home, the sacred place we can retreat to physically or spiritually in order to experience deep restoration and unconditional love.

And as above, so below. We are a culture that for too long has been placing our sole sense of self-worth on our ability to PRODUCE. On our work ethic. We are doers who have forgotten the incredible value and vital healing power of simply BEING.

As a result, we have been stripping the earth of her resources at an insatiable pace. Taking way more than what we need. Overriding her natural cycles. Forcing her vast wildness into a box. And if all this sounds like one giant metaphor for your  experience as a woman, you are not alone.

The way we treat our earth and its creatures and resources says everything about our relationship to the inner feminine, the yin - a sacred energy that is essential to the balance of our planet.

But for thousands of years the qualities of the feminine have been diminished by our societies. Overlooked. Judged as less than. And so as women we have unconsciously separated from our vital essence. Suppressed the keen instincts of our intuition, hardened our soft hearts and disconnected from our bodies. And most unfortunately, we have bought into the misunderstanding that to be successful, we have to become a man.

Brit Marling, writer, director and star of the acclaimed Netflix show The OA wrote an incredible article on this subject re. the portrayal of women in film that illuminates how deep the diminishment of the feminine lives in our collective psyche. You can read it here.

Personally, I was not conscious of this split from the feminine in myself, until I read Maureen Murdock’s “The Heroine’s Journey” which outlines a clear cycle we all experience as women that begins with a separation from the feminine. And it isn’t until a woman has spent years chasing her “boon of success”, perhaps even reaching the peak of this mountain, that she finally comes face-to-face with her long-supressed feelings of spiritual aridity and so makes her descent to the Goddess to reclaim what has been lost.

For the past 5 years, I have been on this Heroine’s Journey for myself. Releasing the deeply conditioned judgements of my feminine nature, softening the inner critic that tells me I have to sweat, toil and conquer to prove my worth, strengthening the voice of my intuition and rediscovering my oneness with nature and the wild self. The result is an inner sense of freedom and empowerment I never could have imagined.

And so I created The Embodying Wild Course - a 3 month course to fully support you through the steps of your own Heroine’s Journey to empower your feminine.

Through coaching, video lessons, guest speakers, meditations and journaling exercises you will be guided home to the ease and grace of your feminine flow. You’ll learn to lead from your intuition, to set clear and unapologetic boundaries and you’ll rediscover your connection to the divine feminine, a higher intelligence that lives within and is always available to support and guide you.  Find the details here.
